PASS - Fall 2009
Parents for Alternate Support Solutions now serves 50 individuals at our two Portland sites with Day Program and Respite services. Our ability to care for so many clients and families is in no small measure a reflection of the support over the years of donors like you. As we approach year-end we have significant financial needs - as well as opportunities - and hope you can be of assistance. Saturday Respite provides families an often needed break from care-giving while their loved one is safely cared for at the PASS Center. Our trained and certified staff are ready to assist you. Financial Safety Net Our $10,000 safety net line-of-credit was used up last winter due to lost income from a very heavy snow storm. Due to the financial challenges we all are facing we have not been able to recoup that loss and are having significant month end cash flow problems. Added to that is a 3-payday month in December - crunch time! Restoring our safety net is our #1 goal in the weeks ahead. GOAL $10,000. Grant Seeking As our Board of Directors looks ahead it is apparent that we need to focus more effort towards seeking funding support [grants] for PASS and its various programs. We have done very little of this in the past and need to do more. Soundbeam, highlighted below, is an example of an opportunity that will be very difficult to fully implement without significant support. The Board is in the process of searching for a part-time grant writer or development person to assist us. As we have no budget for this, you can help with a contribution dedicated to support this effort AND/OR referring capable, interested, and available people to us. GOAL $5,000. Soundbeam We are in the early stages of starting to use our Soundbeam-2 unit in the Day Program. This device translates movement into sound/music. While originally invented as an adjunctive device for professional dancers, users around the world have discovered its usefulness in therapeutic and social settings with individuals challenged by a wide range of disabilities. This presents PASS with a huge opportunity. Our lead staff at PASS-2 [Nick Allard] has just returned from a training seminar in England and we are strategically assessing what would be our best start-up option. Needs for PASS as we proceed with the Soundbeam include:
Thank you so much for considering a gift to PASS and have a blessed Holiday season, Warren Rushold President - PASS PS - Your generosity enhances the lives of the 50 individuals with developmental disabilities being served by PASS today!
